JOB TITLE: KITCHEN ASSISTANT

REPORTING TO: MANAGER/ DEPUTY MANAGER/SENIOR STAFF

JOB PURPOSE:  

TO MAINTAIN HIGH STANDARDS OF CLEANLINESS AND HYGIENE WHILE WORKING IN THE KITCHEN ENVIRONMENT. THIS MAY INCLUDE ASSISTING THE COOK TO PREPARE FOOD, WASHING DISHES, CARRYING OUT ALLOCATED CLEANING TASKS AND MAINTAINING RECORDS.

REQUIRED:

  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Satisfactory Disclosure
  • Two references – one must be from previous employer

DESIRED:

  • Basic food hygiene certificate.
  • Experience of food preparation for the relevant client group.
  • Experience in a kitchen environment - washing dishes, preparing food and cleaning.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • May assist in the preparation, cooking and serving of meals.
  • Wash up after meals, keep the kitchen and equipment in a clean and hygienic condition.
  • Keep Dining Room clean and tidy.
  • To participate in the day-to-day staff communications, in general staff meetings and individual supervision.
  • To perform other such reasonable tasks as may be requested or advised by the manager/main cook/senior staff member.

COMMUNICATION

  • Know correct procedures for reporting incidents/accidents.
  • Be familiar with the complaints procedure.
  • Participate in staff meetings as required.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

  • Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence.
  • Attend mandatory training days/courses on or off site, as and when required.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • Ensure statutory Health and Safety standards in the kitchen and dining area are maintained.
  • Understand and ensure the implementation of the Home’s Health and Safety Policy, COSH and Emergency Fire Procedure.
  • Report immediately to the Home Manager or person in charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a colleague, self or another.
  • Report to the Home Manager or person in charge any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.
  • Ensure the security of the Home is maintained at all times.
