Hourly Rate: £14 per hour

Main Purpose of Post
To provide healthy, well-balanced and nutritious meals in accordance with individual clients’ dietary needs.
To assist with the ordering, purchasing and storage of food, working within the agreed food budget. To ensure all food hygiene and health and safety standards set by the Home, and where appropriate external regulators, are met and actively promoted within the Home.
Main Duties
- Prepare, cook and serve meals on a daily basis.
- Prepare menus in consultation with residents, taking into account individual cultural, dietary and health requirements, and make any necessary adjustments to food preparation.
- Order and store provisions and maintain the corresponding monitoring records, including records of food ordered.
- Ensure kitchen equipment and surrounding areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness in accordance with food safety and health and safety requirements.
- Undertake periodic cleaning tasks relating to equipment used within the kitchen.
- Provide guidance to new and casual staff on food safety and health and safety standards when working in the kitchen and related areas.
- Advise the Manager or Deputy of any concerns observed.
- Undertake any other duties as directed by the Manager or Deputy.
Skills & Abilities
- An interest in working with older people and an understanding of their needs.
- Ability to plan, prepare, cook and deliver a high-quality meal service.
- Ability to maintain high standards of hygiene within kitchen and dining areas.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with residents and colleagues, including maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
- Basic administrative skills, including monitoring and maintaining stock and financial records.
- Knowledge of statutory regulations relating to food hygiene.
- Some knowledge of nutritional and dietary requirements.
Experience
- Experience of working in a kitchen environment, preparing food and cooking meals.
- Experience of working with older people or other vulnerable groups in a housing or care setting.
Education & Qualifications
Degrees or diplomas obtained abroad are acceptable where they are of an equivalent standard to UK qualifications.
- SVQ Food Preparation Level II or equivalent.
- REHIS Elementary Food Hygiene qualification.
Other Requirements
- A flexible approach to undertaking a range of tasks and a commitment to providing a high standard of meal service.
- Willingness to participate in training.
- Flexibility to provide cover when other staff are on holiday, attending training or otherwise absent.
